How to: Clean Silver

    DSC02264

When packing, I realized I had not been taking the best care of some silver jewelry, i.e. I did nothing to it and it tarnished. I was in the midst of packing and not going to go buy silver cleaner. That would be just one more thing to pack and scare my father  (“Why do you have silver cleaner… you are in college, use a little elbow grease..”). Thank goodness for the powers of the internet. One simple search and up popped my solution. It was even eco-friendly. Hallelujah! I would even venture to bet that you have all the ingredients at home….

Aluminum Foil

Baking Soda

Boiling water

Directions:

1) Line a heat proof dish with aluminum foil (shiny side up). Boil water.

2) Place silver item in the dish. Pour boiling water till item is submerged. Sprinkle baking soda over item. (It will bubble and smell gross)

3) Wait 15 minutes, then rinse with water and soap.

Ta-Da! Now getting cleaning!
