Apartment Basics List

Last summer, I did three posts about what was needed to start a kitchen. (You can check them out here, here and here) This year, I decided to make a list of some of the basics to help. Mind you, this is the bare minimum, I did not even list a rug. But, I did leave two blank columns for you to be able to add things. Feel free to add things, delete things, move things around. Sometimes, you just need a jumping off point when starting. My biggest piece is don’t rush to buy everything on the list, wait, and see what you need. Maybe you realize you don’t need a couch but a futon or several arm chairs that double as dining room chairs. Think carefully before spending tons of money on that adorable printed couch that totally goes with your rug, styles change and furniture is expensive. You are better off picking something plain and adding fun pillows or slip covers.

Bedroom Art Update: HELP!

Okay, so I have finished the artwork but I can’t decide how exactly to hang it. I decided to do what any smart person would do and ask my lovely readers! Do we like the left where the small ones overlap or the right where they do not touch? Here’s how I did the art.

50 Dollar Fix: Bedside tables

      DSC01425
If you haven’t noticed by now, I love tables and shelves. I love anything that gives me more room to put stuff because as my roommate has so kindly informed me, I kind of have a lot of stuff. A lot. More than normal. My bedroom is kind of small and I already had put in a number of dressers (three to be exact) to hold my stuff, so the bed would only fit against this one wall. Which is totally fine but leaves very little room for a bedside table.
Problem: I wear glasses and need somewhere to set them at night. I had to have somewhere to put them but I did not have more than 12 inches on either side.
I thought a bit and came up with a great idea: Sconces! I was wondering through Home Goods one day and found the perfect pair! They were about $12 dollars each, which totally works my budget (or lack there of).

They can hold a glass where I put my important stuff: pens, highlighters, glasses and pepper spray (my mother insisted, there are three of them in my apartment) PLUS hold a book! I tend to read for school in bed, so I needed somewhere for that stuff!

And they are quite sparkly too, which I love.  Have you ever had to get creative with bedside tables? Or do you just forgo that and stick your stuff other places?

Bedroom Art Update!

So remember when I did this? And then finally, like 3 months later I put it up? Well I have done more things! First I did some more of this:

Which took some time and more painted arms. Though I am not finished yet I thought I would give you guys a sneak peak!

So please ignore the fact that they aren’t symmetrical, I just wanted to get them up before they sat around for another three months. Also, all you readers who diligently read my posts (tell me, its not just my mom), what color do you think I should paint the small ones? I was playing around with a few browns in the upper corner but I can’t decide.

Weekly Wonderings: August 10, 2011

So as I come down from my sugar high from Aurora's Birthday cake(talked about here), I am pondering what to do about the space behind my bed. I am not really fit to do anything else at the moment in my comatose state other than browse the web and drool over bedrooms. I am currently too stuffed from the cake to do a proper post on it, look for that later next week. Instead, I am debating about putting this above my bed or do some other design. These are my dream house (a la Barbie) bedrooms:

P.S. You can find them all on my pinterest board "Beautiful Beds" and that will take you to the source. http://pinterest.com/blairfal/
